i like the style of your b&w portraits; but what's the black framing i notice on this and the last shot?

Thank you both for your comments. David, the black and white framing is from the negative when it was scanned in. I added white to the right hand side after having cropped the image, to make it look more like the rest of the image, but on the three other sides, it is completely organic.
